Event Details

It would be difficult if not impossible to find another performer with a history like Gary Dalton. He is celebrating his 60th year in the music business.

He started his “surf band” at the age of 13… who’s recordings are still being sold worldwide on “surf compilation albums” under the name “The Velvetones.” It wasn’t long until he decided playing music was his first love and landed a house band status in Hollywood at the famous “Gazzarris on the strip” with his band “Churchill Downs”… from there, he became the leader of the back up band for a major teen idol by the name of “Bobby Sherman” touring nationwide, including a TV appearance on “The Johnny Cash Show” and a tour of Japan playing in the “Budokan.” It was on these tours he met his writing partner… they quickly wrote so many songs they had to put a band together, lacking a name and drinking Strawberry Hill, they called themselves “Boone’s Farm” and in less than a year were signed by the largest record company in the world, Columbia Records. Boone’s Farm only did one album in 1972 and nationwide festival performances playing on stages with every major act at that time to 20,000, 30,000 and as many as 52,000 people. For the rest of the 70’s decade… they decided to be a duo “Dalton & DuBarri” writing and producing four more major label albums and more nationwide touring with their 6 piece band… a hard act to follow with write ups in major publications. At that time it was unusual to see a relatively unknown do 3 & 4 encores before the headline act took the stage including the famed “Madison Square Garden” in NYC.

As you can tell, Gary, has worn many hats i.e., musician, sought after studio guitarist, singer, songwriter, recording artist, recording engineer, producer, studio owner, and consultant as part of the think tank/R&D at TEAC/Tascam in the mid 70’s where he was known as the official test pilot developing affordable home recording that upended the stranglehold on the recording industry and brought an independence to the creativity and production of music for all musicians worldwide. Records, radio, TV, advertising, etc. There was never an end to this guy’s talents. During the 70’s Gary was called to play on “Billy Joel’s” “Streetlife Serenade” album as well as “Jackie De Shannon’s” “New Arrangement” album which resulted in another TV appearance on “The Midnight Special” with Wolfman Jack (Dalton & DuBarri had a spot 3 years earlier in 1973) As a member of Local 47 musician’s union he was constantly loading gear and heading to Hollywood to record for countless artists and their producers in studios with top notch studio musicians of the day. The list is too long to print. After the 70’s the record and recording business took a downturn. Gary dismantled the recording studio he built and owned in Buena Park and returned to small venue performing until the mid 80’s when he became a father. In the 90’s he played for an O.C.band playing a wide variety of material. As the “New Millennium” approached Gary formed the “Extreme Classic Rock Band Dalton Gang” kickin’ some hard rock all over So Cal for over 20 years.

Gary loves all of the musical history he has lived…so, 5 years ago he began his solo act to enable him to perform many of his favorite artists songs … everyone’s favorite artists… he is currently performing about 80 of the greatest songs ever…he is capable of performing 4hrs non-stop. A quote from Gary Dalton: ” Music is an energy…it has no age.”
